Interview With The Champions - ogami

(Senior Mecha Champion - ogami)

Q: Why did you pick this kit for Summer Contest 2009?

A: The RX-93 is one of my favorite Gundam and I love the design of this mecha so I thought that may have suit well for the E2046 contest.

Q: What was the most challenging part of building this kit?

A: I may not say painting but more assembling with the all the electronic and mechanic parts. All with not damaging the painting job!

Q: What do you think is the highlight of your work?

A: That's a pretty hard question, but I may say the lights that give a nice looking and the very nice sculpt, so the details were very nice to paint.

A lot of people have so much higher painting skills than me.

Q: Besides your work, which entries you really like in Summer Contest 2009?

A: There are so much excellent work in this contest, I love the customized Rei that a French buddy L'autre built for this contest, the Minmay from Apshodele, the Kanu from Annya... and so much others !

Q: How did you start this hobby?

A: I studied in graphic arts and I loved using paint so naturally when I discovered GK, I found this hobby so great, painting the characters and mecha I loved in the mangas, anime or movies, that was like they are ¡§coming to life¡¨ !

Q: How long have you been building GK?

A: About 10 years, I started in 2000.

Q: What is the first GK you built?

A: It is an Asuka kit, a 1/8 one built and painted in 2000.

I didn't have any idea how to prepare and paint it ! And I didn't build some cars or plane kits, I mean so few, before... however by chance I owned already (thanks to my studies) an airbrush so it was perfect for GK !

Q: How many GK have you built so far?

A: I never counted exactly, but I may say about 50 GK. I have kept a part of them, have sold few of them and the rest was commissions so it was the people who have chosen the kits, so I feel not disappointed or sad when I have to send the finished kit !

Q: Throughout all the GK you built, which GK you built that makes you proud?

A: I may say the RX-93 because I spent so much time on this one ! And also my Samurai Spirit Diorama I built 2 years ago.

Q: What is your thought about GK hobby?

A: That is a fantastic hobby, one of the interesting things is sharing the technical and experience with my modeling buddies on the internet forums and in real life. Some of them have become precious friends that I love to chat with.

That's so frustrating sometimes to not be able to meet them!

My best friends here are Ai_Amano, Dita, Annya12345, Pitanga, Rainguy, Huniken and so much... (I can't write all here ;) )... and some other on French forums.

More the time goes, more I'm interested with the painting job itself, more than the ¡§collector¡¨ part of this hobby.

If Internet was here when I started, I may have won years of practicing by choosing directly the good technical or avoid mistakes (like not pinning!).

By the way, not to be demagogic concerning the eternal debate (original vs recast), but I sincerely thanks the E2046 store for providing so much kits with a good quality and give the opportunity to most of the people to get GK with a fair price. To be honest, I certainly may not be financially able to build and to get so many kits if E2046 was not here. But in a other way sculptors have to be supported to make our hobby possible.

Q: What do you do for living?

A: I have worked about 10 years in an advertising agency as graphic designer then artistic director and I'm currently working in a communication unit of an industrial company, always for the graphic design.

Q: What advices would you suggest to novices at GK?

A: To be curious of the technical, the different paints etc... Do not hesitate to share, chat with people that have more experience and any of them as something to share. Everyone do mistakes in the beginning but this is also a good way to improve like everything! ;) And never be discouraged by problems. When I see a kit, I never say, that's impossible for my skills... I just try and go on until I complete it ;) !
