Interview With The Champions - wraithrx7

(Senior Diorama Champion - wraithrx7)

Q: Why did you pick this kit for Summer Contest 2009?

A: I wanted to create a Dead or Alive X2 diorama that captured some of the characters as I imagined in a dynamic rather than static setting. The pool theme fit well with game environment and the GK models required little modification to give a .snapshot' feel.

Q: What was the most challenging part of building this kit?

A: The base. I had to do lots of trial and error with the water to give the correct transparency and movement of the water to get the correct look to moving/splashing water.

Q: What do you think is the highlight of your work?

A: The water effects I think are the most challenging and the final form looks as accurate as possible with my skill level.

Q: Besides your work, which entries you really like in Summer Contest 2009?

A: Of course all the models chosen as winners or merit are exemplary but I find that nearly all the entries are worthy of praise. Simply put, the quality of the kits being presented has greatly increased in recent years and I am sure the judging of this contest is becoming more and more difficult.

Q: How did you start this hobby?

A: I am a fan of Spawn and collected PVC statues from McFarlane but was disappointed with the being able to pair up the different incarnations of Spawn with female protagonists/antagonists. The GK world filled the void with many well sculpted kits that I could modify to fit my needs. This eventually expanded to doing many great kits for the joy of doing them well.

Q: How long have you been building GK?

A: More than 5 years.

Q: What is the first GK you built?

A: Tengo Tenghe Natsume Naya squatting.

Q: How many GK have you built so far?

A: Over 100.

Q: Throughout all the GK you built, which GK you built that makes you proud?

A: Naturally, this DOAX2 diorama but I think the Lineage Dark Elf and Soul Caliber Ivy (shown in E2046's gallery) are the others I am most proud of.

Q: What is your thought about GK hobby?

A: While I see the individual quality of the people building GK going up, I see the support from sculptor's going down. Much less is available to those that want to .do it yourself' people like myself. I hate to think that this hobby will disappear either because of lack of support from sculptors or builders interests.

Q: What do you do for living?

A: Engineering, not very creative so this hobby lets me flex my creative .muscles'.

Q: What advices would you suggest to novices at GK?

A: Do research and pay attention to details. Research what knowledge is out there on the web to help prevent having to learn what others have already learned and published on the web. Many people have generously given out .secrets' to making the building and painting process easier thus more fun. Knowing other's tips and tricks will make building and painting less frustrating and ultimately will increase the pride of the novice seeing a job well from the 1 st kit rather than having to learn many frustrating examples and losing the motivation to continue. .The Devil is in the details' is a common phrase in many industries where if you make the best preparations you can, the end results show it. The final result quality is really in the effort you make in preparation and attention to detail along the way.
